1. Overview
Sprocket ("Sprocket", "we", "us") is a location-based social network for motorcycle riders,
operated by the Sprocket team. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Sprocket
mobile app (iOS and Android) collects, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.
Sprocket is free to use — there is no paid tier, no subscription, and we do not sell
your personal data or use it for third-party advertising.
By creating an account or using Sprocket, you agree to the collection and use of information
as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. Data we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
Account & profile
- Registration data — email address, and optionally a phone number, when you create an account with a password, or your Google/Apple account identifier when you sign in with those providers.
- Profile — display name, avatar photo, bio, riding style, and an approximate home city.
- Identity verification — a photo of a government-issued ID that you voluntarily submit to become a "verified" rider. It is reviewed by our moderation team to confirm your account and is not shown to other users.
Garage
- Motorcycle details you add (make, model, year, nickname, photos, engine size, odometer), modifications, and service history.
Community content
- Posts, comments, photos/media, direct and group chat messages, club and event information you create or send.
- Marketplace listings and messages related to items you list or inquire about.
Two-Up (ride matching)
- Listings you post to offer or seek a pillion seat, join requests, and post-ride ratings.
- Optionally, gender identity — used only to determine eligibility for the women/non-binary tier of Two-Up. This field is sensitive, provided voluntarily, and is never shown publicly beyond gating that tier.
Safety
- Emergency contact details (name, phone number, relationship) that you choose to add.
- Records of SOS alerts you trigger, including location at the time of the alert.
Device & technical data
- Push-notification device tokens (to deliver alerts, messages, and SOS notifications).
- App version, device type, and basic diagnostic/crash information used to keep the app reliable.
3. Location data
Location is central to Sprocket's live map and ride-matching features. We only collect
precise location while you have the app open and presence enabled, or during an active
ride/SOS event. You control how your location is shared with a privacy mode on your profile:
| Mode | What other riders see |
| Public | Your coarsened, approximate position on the live map. |
| Friends | Precise presence shared only with people you follow/are friends with. |
| Group | Shared only with members of an active ride/formation you're part of. |
| Ghost | You are invisible to other riders on the map. |
For Two-Up, your exact location is never shared with other users — listings show a
public meeting point (a snapped point of interest or a coarsened location) and a bucketed
distance (e.g. "~3 km away") only. Your precise coordinates are stored separately and are
not exposed through any public part of the app.
4. How we use data
- Operate core features: the live map, Two-Up matching, chat, feed, clubs/events, marketplace, and garage.
- Provide safety features: SOS alerts, nearby-rider response, and live-location share links.
- Verify identity and moderate content to keep the community safe (reviewing reports, blocks, and verification requests).
- Send push notifications for messages, ride requests, SOS alerts, and account activity.
- Maintain, secure, and improve the reliability of the app (crash diagnostics, abuse prevention).
We do not use your data for third-party advertising, and we do not sell personal data to data brokers or advertisers.
5. How we share data
- Other riders — profile, posts, and location are shared with other users according to your privacy settings and the nature of the feature (e.g. a Two-Up listing is visible to nearby verified riders).
- Service providers — infrastructure and processing partners that host our servers/database, deliver push notifications (Apple/Google notification services), and send transactional email, under contractual confidentiality obligations.
- Safety responders — when you trigger an SOS alert, your location and profile are shared with nearby riders who respond, and with the emergency contacts you've configured.
- Legal & safety — where required to comply with law, enforce our terms, or protect the rights, safety, and property of Sprocket, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers — if Sprocket is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
6. Safety features (SOS & live share)
SOS is manually triggered by you — Sprocket does not perform automatic crash detection.
Triggering it shares your location with nearby riders and your emergency contacts until
the event is resolved. A live-share link lets you share your real-time presence with anyone
you send the link to, for a limited time; it can be revoked at any time and never exposes a
stored route or ride history — only your current presence while the link is active.
7. Data retention
We retain account and content data for as long as your account is active. If you delete
your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except
where retention is required for legal, safety, or fraud-prevention purposes (for example,
SOS event logs and moderation/verification records may be retained longer to investigate
abuse or comply with law). Presence location is ephemeral and is not retained once it
expires or you go offline.
8. Your rights & choices
- Access & correction — view and edit most of your profile and content directly in the app.
- Deletion — delete your account and associated personal data at any time, immediately and without contacting us, from Profile → Preferences → Delete account in the app. See Delete Your Account & Data for details, including the option to request deletion by email if you can't access the app.
- Location controls — change your privacy mode or disable location sharing at any time in Settings.
- Notifications — manage push notification permissions from your device settings.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (e.g. under GDPR or CCPA/CPRA) to access, port, or object to processing of your data. Contact us to exercise these rights.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit,
access controls, and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure,
and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Children's privacy
Sprocket is intended for riders who meet the minimum legal age to operate a motorcycle or
hold a learner's permit in their jurisdiction, and in any case is not directed at children
under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe
a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
11. International transfers
Your information may be processed and stored on servers located in a country other than
your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate legal safeguards to protect data
transferred internationally.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by
updating the "Effective date" above, and, where appropriate, communicated through the app.
Continued use of Sprocket after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
