Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 13, 2026  ·  Applies to the Sprocket app on iOS and Android
Sprocket is free — no ads, no sale of personal data, no in-app purchases

1. Overview

Sprocket ("Sprocket", "we", "us") is a location-based social network for motorcycle riders, operated by the Sprocket team. This Privacy Policy explains what information the Sprocket mobile app (iOS and Android) collects, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. Sprocket is free to use — there is no paid tier, no subscription, and we do not sell your personal data or use it for third-party advertising.

By creating an account or using Sprocket, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

2. Data we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Account & profile

Garage

Community content

Two-Up (ride matching)

Safety

Device & technical data

3. Location data

Location is central to Sprocket's live map and ride-matching features. We only collect precise location while you have the app open and presence enabled, or during an active ride/SOS event. You control how your location is shared with a privacy mode on your profile:

ModeWhat other riders see
PublicYour coarsened, approximate position on the live map.
FriendsPrecise presence shared only with people you follow/are friends with.
GroupShared only with members of an active ride/formation you're part of.
GhostYou are invisible to other riders on the map.

For Two-Up, your exact location is never shared with other users — listings show a public meeting point (a snapped point of interest or a coarsened location) and a bucketed distance (e.g. "~3 km away") only. Your precise coordinates are stored separately and are not exposed through any public part of the app.

4. How we use data

We do not use your data for third-party advertising, and we do not sell personal data to data brokers or advertisers.

5. How we share data

6. Safety features (SOS & live share)

SOS is manually triggered by you — Sprocket does not perform automatic crash detection. Triggering it shares your location with nearby riders and your emergency contacts until the event is resolved. A live-share link lets you share your real-time presence with anyone you send the link to, for a limited time; it can be revoked at any time and never exposes a stored route or ride history — only your current presence while the link is active.

7. Data retention

We retain account and content data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal, safety, or fraud-prevention purposes (for example, SOS event logs and moderation/verification records may be retained longer to investigate abuse or comply with law). Presence location is ephemeral and is not retained once it expires or you go offline.

8. Your rights & choices

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and hashed passwords. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Children's privacy

Sprocket is intended for riders who meet the minimum legal age to operate a motorcycle or hold a learner's permit in their jurisdiction, and in any case is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.

11. International transfers

Your information may be processed and stored on servers located in a country other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate legal safeguards to protect data transferred internationally.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective date" above, and, where appropriate, communicated through the app. Continued use of Sprocket after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
